I rolled 100,000 miles on my car last weekend. The car, 1998 Volkswagen Passat, is the first new car I ever bought. I’ve had it for 10 years. A lot of things have changed since I rolled off with dealer’s lot with it. Here some highlights:
- Then: living in Alexandria, VA
- Since then: lived in three different towns in two different states
- Then: picked up my girlfriend from her college dorm for a ride.
- Now: married to girlfriend for 7.5 years, and she has two advanced degrees
- Then: dating
- Now: married with two kids
- Then: super unleaded gasoline, ~ $1.10/gallon
- Now: well let’s not think about it

Keeton, glad to read the Passat is still running strong. I trust you’ve changed the ticking time bomb (timing belt) already! I made 100,000 in October after 7.5 year and am coming up on 105k this weekend. Hope all is well with the little ones. Any chance you can make ALMS at Lime Rock this summer?

Replaced the belt sometime ago. I’ll make it to Petit Le Mans and Laguna Seca this year, but I don’t think I can make it up your way. Sorry, I’ll get there one of these years.
